The nostrils and throat can induce loud noises known as snoring while you are sleeping. To control and deal with the problem of snoring it is important to know the causes of snoring The simplest way to describe snoring is the passage of air through the mouth or nose to the lungs causing a vibration on the soft tissues of the airway. As the air passes through the soft palate during inhalation, the sound is produced because of the obstruction in the mouth or the nose.At the back of the mouth, the tongue and the upper throat meet the soft palate and the uvula. Collapsibility is possible in the area. Disturbance to the airflow is created if this collapses completely making it vibrate. This is the main cause of snoring.
Besides this, there are several other causes of snoring. Enlarging of the tonsils, throat tissues, nose and mouth leads to snoring sounds. This is very prevalant during obstructed inhalation, in the case of young children.Sleep Apnea may also be a result of this enlargement. Temporarily blocking the air, may be fat deposits, especially around the neck. A large tongue while lying can also create a problem for the passing of air properly. Snoring is also produced due to cold or allergy in the nose. Due to injury or nose surgery, the nasal septum may get deviated, which is another cause of snoring. The deviated septum causes trouble in breathing leading to snoring. With advancing age or lack of fitness, there can be a loss of throat muscle which could lead to the throat’s collapse, preventing air passage.
The other cause of snoring may include excessive smoking and intake of alcohol particularly during bed time. The medicines that are taken before bed time for allergies or sleep also lead to snoring. As various options are available in the market to control snoring, excessive use of few anti-snoring devices like snoring sprays can also be a cause of snoring. Instead of sleeping on one’s back, sleeping on one’s side is a much better choice to relieve snoring. The most common snoring causes are the ones named above. A physician should be consulted when a snorer can not find his own resolutions to the problem of snoring.
